Why I Love This Book - Sign up for the Summer Reading Program and sign up to tell us "Why I Love This Book" on video. You pick the book to report on. Schedule your time to give us the report during the first month of the Summer Reading Program. Give us a one minute report in your own words of Why I Love This Book, which we will digitally record. Receive a special prize when you make your recording. Limited to 25 kids participating in "Score One for Reading", and 25 kids participating in "The Amazing Reading Race." Appointments are necessary in order to participate, so call and make your appointment today!


Children who participate must have their parents sign a permission release for the Library use of the video.

The Muse in America: Saul Bellow's Humboldt's Gift - Joe Alulis discusses Saul Bellow's Humboldt's Gift. Dr. Alulis is Professor of Politics and Government at North Park University in Chicago and earned his Ph. D. in political science at the University of Chicago. He has co-edited two books, Tocqueville's Defense of Human Liberty (1993) (with Peter Lawler) and Shakespeare's Political Pageant (1996) (with Vicki Sullivan), and published essays on both of these thinkers as well as an essay on Lincoln, and another on the film maker Whit Stillman. He is currently at work on an essay on Dostoevsky's "Grand Inquisitor."

Collaborate Online with Google Applications - This class will provide a brief overview of the many possibilities available using Google's online application suite, including Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Docs (documents, spreadsheets and presentations) and more to share your schedule and files with your friends and family. If you have an established Google account you will be able to try out the Google Apps suite during the class and ask questions. There is no time in the class to establish a new Google account for those who do not have them, although anyone is welcome to schedule with a librarian to help them setup a new Google account at a time prior to the class.
