Head of Communication and Marketing

The Winnetka-Northfield Public Library District seeks a dynamic, innovative and community focused person to be our Head of Communications and Marketing. This position plays a key role in the success of our District and is part of a collaborative team.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Produce marketing materials including web and email content, print brochures, mailers, newsletters, emails, online and print advertisements, print/digital signage, event calendars, multi-media, and other marketing materials that communicate, inform and persuade.
  • With internal and external stakeholders, collaboratively develop and implement a marketing and communication plan to heighten awareness, understanding, and engagement with the Library’s services, collections, activities, and initiatives.
  • Craft consistent and effective messages, materials for media, and brand standards to represent and promote the Library. Help promote Library special events. Analyze and assess effectiveness of messages and distribution channels.
  • Coordinate across Library departments to clarify responsibilities, negotiate priorities for creating marketing deliverables, and manage a marketing budget.
  • Communicate Library goals and strategic plan to a variety of constituencies by creating compelling success stories and marketing material.
  • Coordinating special events and programs.
  • Actively engage in self-directed professional development, including technology and library trends and issues, and participation in local, state, or national associations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
The preferred candidate will have at least five years of experience with the ability to develop a public relations and marketing program to enhance the image of the library and promote its programs, services, and resources. A Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, communications or equivalent experience. Experience in managing staff. Must have reliable transportation in order to travel to community events and Library branches.

Full-time position for 37.5 hours per week, exempt. Position requires flexibility in scheduling, including evenings and weekends.
Salary range begins at $55,000 with excellent benefits including IMRF.

Branch Services Librarian

Is your passion giving great customer service? The Winnetka-Northfield Public Library District seeks a dynamic This position is part time, which will require working a flexible schedule including: mornings, afternoons, and evenings primarily at the Northfield Branch Library but also with rotating shifts at the Main Library in Winnetka. This position reports to the Branch Manager in Northfield. This is an opportunity to become part of a service-oriented, collaborative team at a busy library on the north shore.

Core Job Functions:

  • Selects materials for patrons with attention to collection development and maintenance. This position may involve working collaboratively to purchase materials both for the Northfield Branch and the Winnetka Library.
  • Provides proactive reference and reader’s advisory for adults and children while handling multiple simultaneous requests for assistance.
  • Demonstrates and explains the online catalog, the Internet, databases, and electronic products used in the library district.
  • Enjoys working with and planning programming for a variety of patrons from the very young to older adults.
    This would include developing programming that would help youth and adults develop their creative side.
  • Provide skilled assistance in the “Studio”, a makerspace that focuses on art creation for patrons at the Winnetka Library.
  • Participates in programs that supplement the services of the library.
  • Maintains an awareness of the trends and developments in public library service, and technology by reviewing current literature, attending workshops and conferences, participating in professional organizations and similar activities.
  • Represents the Library in pertinent professional, educational and community activities.

Minimum Qualifications:
Requires expertise typically acquired through completion of MLS program from an ALA accredited library school and 2 years previous work experience in a library or equivalent setting. Access to reliable transportation for the required to travel between branches and community activities.

Experience:
Minimum 2 years’ experience in a comparable business organization or library is necessary, preferably in reference, children’s services/and or adult services.

Specific Skills Include:

  • Knowledge of reference techniques and automated information retrieval systems.
  • Strong interpersonal, public relations, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with a variety of people
  • Ability and willingness to teach both one-on-one and in group settings
  • Strong knowledge and comfort using new technologies, including the ability to demonstrate/instruct technologies to patrons.
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite(Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), and similar applications.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, life and carry up to twenty pounds
  • Clean driving record and valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle

Hours: Part Time

Part Time Circulation and Interlibrary Loan Services Clerk

We are looking for a friendly, approachable “people person” who enjoys working with all ages to join the Winnetka-Northfield circulation desk staff. This person would work 15-18 hours per week including daytime, evening and weekend hours. They also would rotate shifts between both the Winnetka Library and Northfield Branch.

The candidate we are seeking to hire is detailed-orientated, values customer service, a self-starter and someone who likes to continuously learn new skills. As part of the circulation staff they will have opportunities to promote new and exciting library services and participate in various library events and activities. One of their duties will be to help promote the Studio, the Library’s new makerspace.

Required qualifications include: High School Diploma or equivalent, one year experience in a library or similar experience, demonstrated good customer service skills, computer literacy with current MS Office proficiency, some knowledge of smartphones, tablets, and laptops, demonstrated cash handling skills, and the ability to work weekends and evenings.

Salary: $12.24 per hour

The Winnetka Library is looking for a part-time page/shelver. Duties include the shelving of library materials, shelf reading, shifting materials, and other tasks as assigned. Schedule to be determined. Pleasant and helpful demeanor a must.

Salary: $9.00 per hour

Hours: Part Time, 10 to 18 hours per week, evenings and weekends
