Downloadable Books & Media

The Winnetka-Northfield Public Library offers a variety of books, audiobooks and videos that you can download and use whenever you like.  Because this is a new and developing service there are some system requirements which may be  insurmountable for some users.  We are always trying to improve our service and will continue to do our best to make these services available to all users as soon as there are viable alternatives. We do now have a variety of iPod and Mac friendly options available.

If you have questions or problems about how to go about downloading books and audiobooks, check the brief HowDoI article about the process on this website.

My Media Mall

My Media Mall offers audiobooks, ebooks and videos which can be downloaded to your personal computer and enjoyed anywhere on a wide range of portable devices including MP3 players (iPods), iPhones, Android Phones, Kindles, Nooks and even burned to CD.

To get started, go to the My Media Mall site, sign on with your library card number, and install the free software for your computer (both Mac & PC). MyMediaMall uses the Overdrive Media Console which is available for a variety of platforms including iPhone/iPad, Android, Blackberry, and Windows Mobile. You can find out more about this software on the Overdrive website.

Recorded Books OneClickDigital

Audiobook downloads from Recorded Books for your iPod or MP3 player. After using your library card number to enter, you can create an account and start downloading audiobooks. Windows users should use the "OneClickDigital Media Manager" (available for download from the site) while Mac users just download the books directly. Audiobooks that used to be available from NetLibrary are now here, as well as other newer titles.

EbscoHost (formerly NetLibrary)

You can read digital books from EbscoHost online.  The digital books require Adobe Reader to be installed and work on Windows and Apple computers.

A valid Winnetka-Northfield Public Library District card is required to enter the site, after which you can create a free account.

Rdio

Rdio is a music streaming service, and although you cannot actually download content from Rdio to your computer using the Library, you can stream music to your computer or mobile device over the Internet. Rdio has a wide variety of music recordings available from major labels, covering everything from classical to country and jazz to current top-40 hits.

After providing a library card number, you will be asked for an email address and a login and whether you want a web (computer only) or unlimited (computer plus mobile) streaming account. If you don't have a mobile device or don't anticipate using the service on a mobile device, please choose the web version as this will allow more people to use the service.

After making these selections you will get a voucher code which can be used with a new or existing Rdio account and will give you a credit for a month to use the Rdio service. After the period of a month has passed, you can come back to the Library's website and get a new voucher.
